You’re In. Welcome to UltraTrax Massanutten.
On April 17, 2027, you’ll take on a full day of movement, challenge, and time on the trails at Massanutten Resort.
Massanutten is getting a major upgrade for 2027 with a true choose-your-own-adventure format. Beginner and intermediate trekkers can complete their entire challenge on the scenic Western Slope trail system, where flowing forest trails, steady climbs, and rugged Shenandoah terrain deliver a true mountain experience without the steepest descents.
For experienced hikers and ruckers looking for more, an optional advanced segment will continue onto Massanutten’s ridgeline and ski slopes, adding steeper elevation changes, bigger views, more technical terrain, and a dramatic finish down the mountain.
Whether you’re here to walk 7 miles or push all the way to 28, the challenge is yours to define.
10 hours. One adventure. Four distances. How far will you go?
Complete your goal within the 10-hour event window. Want another layer of challenge? Take it on with a 10, 20, or 35 lb. ruck or weighted vest.
The main course will be clearly marked from start to finish, with well-stocked aid stations positioned along the route to keep you fueled and moving.
Trek Day Saturday, April 17, 2027 Massanutten Resort, Massanutten, VA
The start line is open between 7am-10am and is divided into corrals based on distance. 28 milers get started at 7am, 21 milers at 7:45am, 14 milers at 8:30am, and 7 milers at 9:15am.
UltraTrax is not a race, but it is a timed endurance event. You’ll have up to 10 hours to complete your chosen distance.
Move at your pace. Take breaks when you need them. Then keep going.
Participants will park at Base Camp and be shuttled approximately 15 minutes to the Western Slope start area. After completing the Western Slope portion of the course, participants finishing there will be shuttled back to Base Camp to collect their swag and enjoy the post-trek atmosphere. Those selecting the advanced course will finish the challenge right back at Base Camp/parking.
Bib Pickup
Your bib may be mailed to you in advance or picked up on event morning.
Participants registering after April 1, 2027 must pick up their bib in person.
Taking on the Ruck Challenge? If you registered for a weighted division, you’ll need to bring your own ruck, backpack, or weighted vest.
Your pack will be weighed before you begin. Everything in the pack counts toward your required weight except perishable food and drinks.
What’s Waiting at the Finish Finishers will receive:
A custom UltraTrax finisher medal (Grey Wolf Medal for 28 and 21 milers, Trail Wolf Medal for 14 and 7 milers)
UltraTrax event T-shirt
UltraTrax patch
Additional swag for weighted divisions
After your trek, stick around and enjoy the Base Camp atmosphere at Massanutten. Food and drinks will be available for purchase, with indoor and outdoor space to recover, refuel, and celebrate with other participants.
Friends and family are welcome to join you at Base Camp and can also explore Massanutten’s other onsite activities throughout the day.
What to Expect at Massanutten A Choose-Your-Own-Adventure Course The Western Slope delivers flowing forest trails, sustained climbs, and rugged Shenandoah terrain while avoiding the resort’s steepest descents. It’s a challenging mountain course with plenty of room to find your rhythm.
Looking for More? Advanced participants may choose to continue onto the optional ridgeline and ski-slope segment for steeper climbs and descents, bigger views, and more technical terrain. This section is intended for experienced hikers and ruckers.
There will be no aid stations on the advanced segment, so participants choosing this option should carry enough water and fuel to complete it independently.
The advanced route will only open when trail and weather conditions are safe and may be closed in the event of rain, wet terrain, or other conditions that make the route unsuitable.
Support Along the Way Expect a well-marked main course, stocked aid stations, event staff, and a community of people working toward their own goals alongside you.
Parking Complimentary parking is available onsite at Massanutten Resort.
Participants will park at Base Camp and be shuttled approximately 15 minutes to the start area.
More detailed arrival, shuttle, parking, course, and event-day information will be sent as Trek Day gets closer.
Move With Purpose UltraTrax is all about spending more time outside, moving farther than you thought you could, and helping protect the places that make those experiences possible.
A portion of UltraTrax proceeds supports efforts to protect and preserve the outdoor spaces we depend on.
You’re officially part of the pack! We’ll see you at Massanutten.
